Denecia Allen is a 17 year old wheelchair dancer who discovered her love for dance 10 years ago when joining icandance, a creative inclusive community. Denecia feels ‘free’ when dancing and loves the opportunity to be creative to music. She describes herself as kind and energetic who is ‘just like everybody else, I just do things in a different way.’ When not at college or dancing, Denecia loves to draw, be with her friends and listen to music really loud. Though that’s mostly to drive her family crazy, she confesses. Denecia’s dream is to be an actress one day. Denecia has loved the opportunity to work with professional dancer , Alice Bellini. The pandemic was incredibly isolating for Denecia who uses dance to express her experience. The piece created with Alice is titled ‘Reunion’ and shares the joy of coming out of the pandemic and being together again.
